ABOUT THE TOOLS OF THE TRADE GRANT
Supporting New York's Next Generation of Residential Construction Professionals
Persons entering the residential construction industry often face an immediate barrier to entry: the expense of purchasing tools. To help address this barrier and encourage workforce development, the New York State Builders Association Research and Education Foundation (REF) offers the Tools of the Trade Grant program.
For 2026, $500 grants are available to be used towards tools, equipment, or protective clothing and gear via a retailer gift card. Applicants must aspire to a career in residential construction and work in the residential construction field in New York State.
This program is intended for individuals who are new to the residential construction industry. Preference is given to applicants with two years or less of industry experience; applicants with more experience are also welcome to apply and will be considered.
All applications are reviewed by the REF Scholarship Committee, which reserves the right to approve or deny any application at its sole discretion.
*For the first 30 days of availability, there is one grant available per NYS region as identified in the REF Bylaws. After such time, grants will be considered regardless of region and subject to funds availability until November 30, 2026.
